John holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering (University of Connecticut) and a Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering (Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute). Sean holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering (University of Connecticut) and is a graduate of General Electric’s prestigious Edison Program.
During their previous careers as engineers with United Technologies Corporation, John and Sean were each independently assigned the task of developing Knowledge Based Engineering systems to make engineering faster and more efficient for this very large, multi-division corporation. Their efforts facilitated KBE systems corporate-wide, coordinating a complex method and standard across various divisions.
John and Sean had a vision to take this large corporation approach to KBE and make it available to smaller companies. They identified a need for sophisticated KBE systems capabilities, currently unavailable to smaller companies, preventing them from achieving higher goals and business success. John and Sean collaborated on a revolutionary pc-based KBE language tool that would impact smaller business, allowing them to automate processes that were inaccurate, cumbersome, and inefficient. Thus allowing small companies greater opportunities to compete in evolving markets.
John and Sean observed that many projects owned by small companies were suffering without coordinated IT and engineering input available to large corporations. As a result, they developed a unique hybrid KBE tool combining engineering services and engineering software, permitting small businesses access to a collaboration of the specialized skills of mechanical engineering and custom software development, actively taking advantage of both disciplines at the same time.
From 1994 to 1996, John’s and Sean’s vision was an afterhours venture, working full time as engineers at UTC, while developing their growing business at night and on weekends. In 1997, they decided to leave UTC and focus on Design Automation Associates full time. They established a team of highly skilled engineers, computer scientists, and IT professionals. Together, the team makes it possible for clients to solve their difficult engineering problems with accuracy and efficiency, putting into action their vision of Engineers Helping Engineers.
Today, John and Sean continue to build a team of experts supporting existing clients with exemplary personal service and reaching new clients in expanding markets, providing continuous improvement, added functionality, and increased profitability through process optimization and design customization.
